| This ia my grandfather, Oscar Hugo Kompst, a paint-mixer of German descent, who worked most of his life at the Ault & Winborg Corporation in Cincinnati. In the early 1930s he posed for Winold Reiss (1886-1953). As a child I often visited the Union Terminal train station where this mosaic was installed in the main concourse. I remember imagining how it must have looked as a bright dye began flowing into a vat of white base, the pigments swirling to create a new color.
