 I am a professor of information systems in the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland Ohio. I received my PhD in decisions sciences from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1991. I have done extensive research in time series forecasting, where among other things, I developed Rule-Based Forecasting, an expert system that integrates judgment with extrapolation to produce more accurate forecasts than competing methods. I have also published research on objective setting in organizations and on time perception. In addition to continued work in those areas, my research interests include design, creativity, and improvisation.
I am a member of the editorial boards of the International Journal of Forecasting and of Information and Organizations and a director of the International Institute of Forecasters. My research has been published in leading academic and practitioner journals including Management Science, Information Systems Research, the Journal of Marketing Research, the Journal of Forecasting, the International Journal of Forecasting, Interfaces, and Chief Executive. I have consulted and conducted research with IBM, KeyCorp Bank, Prodigy, Prince Manufacturing, Seally Matress Company, Fingerhut Corporation, the U.S. Navy, the Federal Reserve Bank, WCPN public radio, Cleveland's Playhouse Square, and others.
